Trail Closure Notice

Woodrat trail is closed due to a culvert failure between Edwards Creek and Edwards Loop Trails. Trail will need to remain closed until repairs are performed.

Wildcat Creek Trail at Point Pinole will be closed

Wildcat Creek Trail at Point Pinole will be closed for trail repaving and repairs from 4/10/24 to 4/30/24.

Temescal Swim Season Postponed

Due to Lake Maintenance, the 2024 Temescal swim season has been postponed until further notice.

Trail Closure Notice

Sections of the following trails are temporarily closed to safeguard critical habitat in the area:

• Back Ranch Loop Trail - Closed south of the intersection of Chorus Frog Trail
• Goldfinch Trail - Closed south of intersection of Chorus Frog Trail
• Chorus Frog Trail - Closed east of intersection with Tree Frog Trail

Closure is in effect until August 31, 2024.

Trail Closure - Pine Tree Trail

Due to storm damage, the Pine Tree Trail in Tilden Nature Area is closed until further notice.

Maintenance along Iron Horse Trail

Expect construction-related delays on the Iron Horse Trail between April 18 and May 3, from Willow Pass Road to Monument Blvd in Concord. Central Contra Costa Sanitary District will be performing repair work during this period. Please contact Chris Carpenter with CCCSD, at 925-229-7316 with any questions or concerns.

Marciel Road Closed Through May 12

Marciel Road in Anthony Chabot Regional Park will be closed to vehicles past the Marciel Staging Area through May 12. The closure is necessary to ensure safe egress for large log-hauling vehicles as part of a fuels management project. The Marciel Staging Area will remain open.

Flooded Trail
Whispering Creek Trail between the foot bridge and the lake trail is flooded and will be closed until further notice.  Updated April 16, 2024.

Fishing Pier Closure

Doolittle fishing pier is currently closed to the public for safety reasons.

Trail Closure - Wildcat Creek Trail

Due to culvert damage, the Wildcat Creek Trail is closed between Jewel Lake and the Wildcat Canyon Regional Park gate.

Trail Closures

The following trails are currently closed:

• Brandon Trail Stone Bridge to Horseshoe Trail is closed due to a failed culvert
• Willowview Trail

Seasonal flooding along the Wildcat Creek Trail in Richmond

Approximately 120 feet of the Wildcat Creek Trail, along the Richmond Parkway undercrossing, is currently experiencing seasonal flooding. Flooding in this area is expected to remain during the wet winter months through into late spring/early summer 2024. 

Bathroom Construction Delay

Construction of replacement bathroom facilities at Crown Beach along Shoreline Drive at Grand Street has been delayed. The Park District is working with the City of Alameda to restart construction as soon as possible.

Trail Detour between Dougherty Rd and Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station

Until further notice, a temporary detour of the Iron Horse Regional Trail between Dougherty Road and the Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station will be in place. View Map.

The Scarlett Drive roadway project will widen and extend existing Scarlett Drive from Dougherty Road to Dublin Boulevard and provide a new segment to the Iron Horse Regional Trail. The project will require the temporary detour of the trail while roadway and utility improvements are made to Scarlett Drive. The City of Dublin will also be constructing a pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting the Iron Horse Regional Trail on the north and south sides of Dublin Boulevard at the intersection of Scarlett Drive. The bridge will provide access to Don Biddle Community Park, which is located on the north side of Dublin Boulevard adjacent to the Iron Horse Regional Trail.  

The pedestrian bridge project will provide a safer and easier crossing for trail users and facilitate improved traffic flow along Dublin Boulevard by providing a grade-separated bridge crossing over Dublin Boulevard for pedestrians, bicyclists and BART commuters. The terminus of the southeasterly side of the bridge crossing will lead directly to the Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station. Seasonal Campground Closure – Extended due to Fuels Reduction Project

Anthony Chabot Family Campground and Group Camp sites are closed seasonally from November 1 – March 31. This year the closure is extended through May 12 to allow for the completion of a large-scale fuels reduction project which will help remove accumulated flammable plant materials, including dead/dying trees, and improve visitor safety.

Lafayette Ridge Staging Area Closure

The Lafayette Ridge Staging Area will be closed beginning December 20, 2023, through April 2024 for accessibility improvements, including restroom upgrades, a new drinking fountain and water bottle filling station, and improved disabled access parking. Access to trails will be impacted.

Greathouse Visitor Center and Mine Tours Temporarily Closed
The Greathouse Visitor Center and mine tours are temporarily closed through April due to unforeseen needed maintenance. Please check back for updates on reopening dates.
Weather permitting, staff is available by the upper parking lot with park information, educational activities, and Trails Challenge shirts and books on Fridays 10am-2pm, and Saturday/Sundays 10am-4pm. Updated April 16, 2024.

Trail Closures - Towhee and Huck's Trail

Towhee Trail, from Honker Bay Trail to Huck's Trail, and Huck's Trail, are closed for tree maintenance until further notice. Please follow all signage and exercise caution in the area.

Trail Closure

Upper Meadowlark Trail is closed due to storm damage.

Muskrat Trail north of Patterson Ranch Road at Coyote Hills is closed due to flooding. Chochenyo Trail is open but has standing water at various locations.

The Tuibun Trail, between Paseo Padre Parkway and the kiosk, has been re-routed due to construction work taking place through Spring 2024. View Map.

Trail Closure

The San Francisco Bay Trail between Pinole Shores Staging Area and Bay Front Park will be closed at the end of May 2024 to repair 100-foot section of trail that was damaged by a landslide during the 2022-2023 winter storms. Construction is scheduled to take approximately two months.

Thurgood Marshall Regional Park

Thurgood Marshall Regional Park is closed with no public access, however, there are occasional public tour events. Check for upcoming tours or events at Calendar of Events - Thurgood Marshall.

Iron Horse Trail Overcrossing Construction - San Ramon

The north side of the Iron Horse trail adjacent to Bollinger Canyon Road is closed during the construction of an overcrossing, a pedestrian/bike detour is in place. View Map. (At a later date, closure of the south side of the Iron Horse trail adjacent to Bollinger Canyon Road will also be implemented; a pedestrian/bike detour will be in place.)
The overcrossing project began on July 31, 2023, and is expected to take 18-24 months to complete. View Project information.

Parking Notice

Due to high visitation, Castleridge Trailhead parking may be limited. Consider visiting at less busy times or using the now-reopened Foothill Staging Area or new Tyler Ranch Staging Area.

Del Valle Regional Park is open with limited amenities

• The Marina Store is open daily with modified hours for boat rentals on a first come first served basis. Rentals for motorboats, patio boats and canoes can be completed between 7am and 1.45pm; boats must be returned by 4pm. The store is open between 7am - 5pm to purchase bait, tackle, license sales, and snacks and drinks.
• The Camp Store is now closed until spring.
• Use caution on storm-damaged trails. Signs are posted.
• Construction equipment/noise may be present during normal working hours.

The following amenities remain closed:

• The Visitor Center is currently closed.
• The Swim Beach Food Concession remains closed until further notice.
• Only a small, upper portion of the campground, convenience cabins, equestrian campsites and some group campsites have reopened. The majority of Del Valle Campground remains closed until further notice due to severe storm damage. Extensive repairs are needed. Campsites are being assessed and will be reopened based on safety conditions. Please contact Reservations if you have questions about cancellations.

Damaged Trail
The intersection of Briones Crest Trail/ Mott Peak Trail and Briones Crest Trail/ Lagoon Trail is currently damaged but passable with care. Barricades and cones have been posted on both ends of the fire trail to warn park users. Please follow all signage and use caution. Updated April 16, 2024.

Trail Closure
The Miwok Trail through Los Vaqueros Watershed is closed for resource protection until further notice. For questions regarding the closure, please contact Contra Costa Water District. Updated April 16, 2024.

Temporary parking closures due to capacity

Due to increased visitation, primarily on Saturday and Sunday, vehicle access to Coyote Hills may close temporarily. Vehicle access to the park typically reopens when capacity is available, but expect very extended wait times to enter. Additional Parking is available at Dumbarton Quarry Campground.

Tassajara Creek/Ridge Trail Section Closed

The Tassajara Ridge Trail from Charbray Street across the valley to the top of the opposite ridge is closed due to extensive trail damage.

No horse-trailer parking at Proctor Staging Area until further notice.
The exit at Proctor Staging area has collapsed and is closed until further notice. The entrance is now serving as a one-lane, entrance and exit. Unfortunately, the entrance is too narrow to allow horse trailers to exit the staging area.  Updated April 16, 2024.

Annual Closure

The Castle Rock area of Mount Diablo State Park located adjacent to Stage Road Trail in Diablo Foothills will be closed from February 1, 2024, until August 1, 2024. View Map. This area is closed to visitors annually for the protection of the American peregrine falcon. Peregrine falcons are territorial and highly sensitive during nesting season.

Storm-damaged Trail
A culvert on Leona Trail near Artemisia Trail has failed and is impassible. The trail is not closed as the park can still be accessed from both sides, but the trail no longer connects and the area should be avoided for further landslide issues. View Map. Updated April 16, 2024.

Garin Woods Trail, Ziele Creek Trail, and South Fork Trail are currently closed due to storm damage.
High Ridge Loop Trail has sustained damage but is open to pedestrian use. Meyers Ranch Trail is currently open with temporary repairs. Other trails have also sustained some storm damage. Use caution while accessing all open trails in Garin and Dry Creek Pioneer.  Due to storm damage Dry creek garden is closed until next year.  View Map.  Updated April 16, 2024.

Trail Closures - Tilden

• Memory Trail is closed and impassable between Canon Dr. and Selby Trail until further notice because of a bridge failure.

Coyote Hills Parking Lot Project

The gravel parking lot located at Paseo Padre Parkway and Patterson Ranch Road is closed. View Map.
The existing lot will be replaced by a paved 100-car lot with shade, flush toilets, landscaping, EV charging, bus parking, picnic tables, and wildlife overlooks. The new parking lot is due to open in Spring 2024 and will be located further up Patterson Ranch Road and will have better pedestrian and vehicle circulation. 
To accommodate early park users, Coyote Hills staff will open the gates to the park at 7am.

Ferry Point Pier Removal Project

The Ferry Point Pier Removal Project is expected to begin in the summer of 2024 and last approximately 1-2 months. The pier is over 100 years old and has deteriorated beyond repair. Removal is necessary for public and maritime safety. The iconic metal Gantry structure and the concrete fishing pier will not be removed. The public fishing pier at Ferry Point will be closed during construction for public safety.  

Construction Notice - Coyote Hills Restoration and Public Access Project

Area Closure Notice - Soil Testing
Recent soil testing of the entire landfill detected lead in specific, localized areas around the perimeter of the north side of the park (the portion of the park located across the Hoffman Channel bridge). For your continued safety, the areas are fenced off from all public/pet access. The Park District, under oversight of the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board, is developing a plan to restore these areas.  Updated April 16, 2024.

The northern section of the Franklin Ridge Loop Trail is currently experiencing significant rutting and damage as a result of PG&E activity. Newly Renovated Pool

The newly renovated Roberts Pool will reopen for the swim season in 2024.
