The Park District conserves and enhances important cultural resources such as historical sites, and natural resources which include vegetation and water to ensure healthy ecosystems for a diverse assortment of birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates that dwell in the regional parks, lakes, and shorelines.
On October 18, 2022, the Park District held a media panel briefing "Enjoy, Don't Destroy" to bring attention to the four-fold increase in park visitations in 2020 and 2021. The increased visitations bring growing risks to the habitat and wildlife that live in these parks. Over 110 multicultural news journalists across California and the country attended the virtual briefing that was held in partnership with Ethnic Media Services. View all multilingual media coverage.
