Lake Temescal Water Quality Conditions

  • December 2, 2024 - Lake Temescal is closed to fishing and body contact due to a sewage spill.
  • Swimming is over for the 2024 Swim Season. Swimming will resume in April 2025.
  • There are no advisories for blue-green algae posted at this time. See Blue-Green Algae Information for additional details.

About the Facility

Opened to the public in 1936, the Beach House was built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to provide accommodation for changing rooms on the ground floor for Lake Temescal visitors and office space (in what is now the event space) on the upper floor that served as the original headquarters for the park district.

Open Houses and Scheduling Tours

  • To view the Brazilian Room, please join us at our open houses, the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Until further notice, we are unable to hold tours outside of these events. 
  • To schedule a tour of the Beach House or Fern Cottage, please contact the Rental Facilities office at (510) 544-3164. 
  • We are not currently offering tours for the Shoreline Center due to closure, please check back.
