EXTREME Fire Danger in Effect for Parks in SW REGION on SATURDAY, July 2. Follow All Restrictions Below.

  • No open fires or barbeques of any type. Gas-fueled stoves are permitted in all areas.
  • No off-road driving. Drive only on designated roadways. Do not drive or park on dry grass; heat from vehicle's undercarriage can start a fire.
  • Secure all tow chains -  dragging tow chains can spark fires.

NOTE: If capacity is reached, access to the swim lagoon closes for the day,
No alcohol, glass containers allowed in the swim lagoon area (portable gas grills acceptable)


Located in Don Castro Regional Recreation Area, swimming in the chlorinated swim lagoon is a main attraction from the end of May through September. There is a bathhouse with shower, vending machines, a sandy beach and large lawn areas. Swimming is allowed only when lifeguards are on duty.

Several picnic tables and charcoal BBQs are available for use inside the swim area on a first-come, first-serve basis. No alcohol and no glass containers are allowed. Portable gas grills are allowed, but not on the beach nor on the grass. Check fire restrictions before you visit.

Entry Fees

There is a beach access fee - Ages 16-61 $3; Ages 1-15 and Seniors $2; Under 1 free. Beach wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. See Park Accessibility on Don Castro park page for more information.

Group Swimming

Organized groups planning to use the swim complex should call 1-888-327-2757, option 2, to notify park staff and to receive necessary facility information.

Swim Capacity

Once the swim facility capacity is reached, there will be no new entries allowed for the remainder of the day (or at the discretion of the Park Supervisor), for the safety of the public. Please take this into consideration when planning your visit.
