Help celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a month-long community service event. Due to rise in regional COVID-19 cases, we are unable to host traditional cleanups with groups of volunteers at the Regional Parks. However, you can honor the spirit of the MLK Jr. Day of Service by conducting your own neighborhood cleanup. By picking up litter which would, otherwise, travel through storm drains and creeks to pollute beaches and ocean, you are providing an invaluable service to the environment and to your communities.

The Park District celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a virtual pre-recorded multicultural event honoring his life and dream through words, song, dance and spirit, emceed by Board Director Ellen Corbett. Presented by the Martin Luther King Jr Rally Committee, this special program was the 29th year as Oakland’s longest continuing celebration of Dr. King. Featured guests included former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, youth from MLK Freedom Center, and many others.
