Oakland, CA – As part of the Community Wildfire Safety Program, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is conducting electric system hardening work and vegetation work at Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve in Oakland.

As part of this upgrade work, a total of 13 distribution poles, spanning nearly three miles, will be replaced with harder, more fire-resistant equipment, and lines will be reconductored and insulated. Additionally, vegetation identified as hazardous due to its proximity to electrical equipment will be trimmed or removed.

The work in Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve is part of a larger wildfire safety project that will benefit parts of Oakland and Orinda. Helicopters, ground crews and traffic control will be present in Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve and other parts of East Bay Regional Park District, including Anthony Chabot Park, through the end of the year. PG&E notifies residents ahead of scheduled helicopter flights. Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve will remain open and available to visitors, however there may be intermittent traffic controls when large equipment is in motion.

The project is part of PG&E’s Community Wildfire Safety Program, implemented following the 2017 and 2018 wildfires as one of many additional precautionary measures intended to further reduce wildfire risk. PG&E is conducting fire safety work throughout Northern & Central California.
