Park District Opens New Trailhead at Pleasanton Ridge

March 5, 2018

Public Access Increased to Popular Regional Park

The East Bay Regional Park District dedicated a newly-completed trailhead at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park on March 10.
“We are thrilled to open this new trailhead to the public, which will allow additional access to this popular and scenic park.” said Park District Board Director Ayn Wieskamp. “It also allows us to connect wildlife corridors and protect natural resources.”

The new Castleridge trailhead will serve as an important public access point for users with expanded park ridgeline trail access from the northern side of the park. The trailhead’s amenities include street parking for up to 50 vehicles, a drinking water fountain, accessible restroom, and gated access serving two neighboring communities. The project is a joint partnership between the Park District and the City of Pleasanton. A multi-use trail extends from the trailhead to the northern ridgeline of Pleasanton Ridge.

“Pleasanton Ridge is a long, linear park, and until now the only District access points have been from the southern part of the park,” added Park District General Manager Robert E. Doyle. “So adding this additional public entry point is significant.”

The Park District purchased the 231-acre Castleridge property in 2014 for $2.2M. Funding was provided by a $1 million grant through the Alameda County Altamont Landfill and Resource Facility Open Space Advisory Committee, and matching funds from the District’s Measure WW.

The new trailhead is located close to the intersection of Foothill Road and Old Foothill Road, west of the City of Pleasanton’s Alviso Adobe Community Park.

The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful public parks and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties east of San Francisco Bay, established in 1934. The system comprises 121,000 acres in 73 parks including over1,250 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and nature learning.
