e-Bikes Making it Easier to Enjoy the Outdoors

December 15, 2019

Over the last few years, electric bikes (e-bikes) have gained momentum and have increased access to the outdoors for exercise and recreation.

The rise of e-bikes has brought other benefits as well, including increased livability and greener transportation.
Today, e-bikes are also seen as a major green transportation solution that helps take cars off the road and reduce
greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2019, the Park District Board of Directors, after a pilot program showed e-bikes were a compatible use, amended the District’s rules and regulations to allow Class 1 and 2 e-bikes on select paved regional trails.

The Park District emphasizes, however, that e-bikes must abide by existing biking rules, including following the 15 miles per hour speed limit and calling out or ringing a bell when passing other trail users.

Regional Trails that Allow e-Bikes
Alameda Creek Trail (paved only)
Big Break Trail
Contra Costa Canal Trail
Delta De Anza Trail
George Miller Trail
Iron Horse Trail
Lafayette Moraga Trail
Marsh Creek Trail
