Richmond, CA: On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, Chevron U.S.A., Inc. announced their effort to help extend the San Francisco Bay Trail at Point Molate, adjacent to the scenic shoreline in Richmond. The press conference held atop a bluff along Stenmark Road and showcased the expansive views that the new trail alignment will offer.

“This addition to the Bay Trail is the result of public agencies and private industry working together to preserve and showcase some of the most beautiful shoreline and views of San Francisco Bay,” said Park District General Manager Robert Doyle.

Chevron U.S.A., Inc. has donated a Recreational Trail Easement in Richmond to the East Bay Regional Park District to complete a San Francisco Bay Trail spur along the shoreline of the Point San Pablo peninsula. Upon its completion, this approximate one-mile segment will provide unprecedented multi-use public trail access along the historic shoreline property extending from the foot of the eastern shore of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to Point Molate Beach Park.

This new trail alignment has long been identified in the Park District’s Master Plan as a planned site for a regional park at Point Molate which will extend the Bay Trail and connect to future segments in Richmond and Marin. It will be designed as close to the original corridor alignment as physically possible, in order to provide safe use of the trail and to maximize the visual enjoyment for users of the trail.

“Chevron’s easement to provide public access along this beautiful Point Molate shoreline is key to the development of this Bay Trail extension,” said Robert Doyle, EBRPD General Manager. “Refinery officials have been tremendous partners in moving this plan forward which will provide the public a huge benefit in being able to experience the gorgeous views,” he added.

“We are proud that we are able to help provide this important link to Point Molate Beach Park and the overall San Francisco Bay Trail network,” said Heather Kulp, Chevron Public Affairs Manager. “This provides the public new access to our beautiful Richmond shoreline in Point Molate, and continues our important partnership with the East Bay Regional Park District.”

East Bay Regional Park District will be the lead agency in securing funding for design and construction of this trail extension and will provide matching funds as necessary from Measure WW capital regional park bond approved by voters in 2008.
