Big Break Climate Adaptation Plan

Overview

Big Break Regional Shoreline is a 1450-acre regional park and is part of the great Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. The park provides water access for kayakers, interpretation of the natural surroundings at the visitor center and through guided programs, and trails for walkers and bicycle riders. Big Break provides habitat for a plethora of native species, some that are threatened and endangered.

PROJECT GOALS

  • Sea Level Rise Adaptation. Evaluate the site's vulnerability to sea level rise and climate change.
  • Habitat, Public Access, Interpretation. Develop plan to adapt and expand habitats and existing access and infrastructure to meet projected Sea Level Rise and expanded user needs.
  • Actionable. Ensure park improvements are within operational and budgetary constraints of the Park District.
