Park Activities
The lake's swim lagoon has a sandy beach with restrooms and a concession stand. Shady picnic areas on a green lawn are accessible to the disabled. Alcohol is not permitted anywhere in the park. Swimming is permitted in the lagoon only, in the summer when lifeguards are on duty. There is a beach access fee. For fee information and lifeguard schedule, visit the Swim Facilities page. Swim lessons and the Jr. Guard program are held at the lagoon in the summertime. For information, see Aquatic Programs at the Park District's WebReg program registration page. Visitors to Contra Loma may launch their own boats. For boat launch information, see our Boating and Sailing page. Persons using float tubes must have with them life jackets.
The reservoir contains catfish, black and striped bass, bluegill, trout, and red-eared sunfish for fishing. A Daily Fishing Access Permit is required and can be purchased at the park entry kiosk. Other information on fishing can be found in the Fishing section of this site.
From Contra Loma there are trail connections to Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Back to top
Note: The Contra Costa Water District, which owns the reservoir, requires that all windsurfers shower a minimum of 2 minutes prior to entering the reservoir and wear at least a short wetsuit. Showers are located outside the restrooms and next to the beach used by windsurfers. Persons using float tubes must wear waders or other wetsuit material to eliminate body contact with the water in the reservoir. People using sea kayaks that self bail must shower prior to entering the reservoir and wear at least a short wet suit. Other dry-type kayaks are permissible with the only restriction being no rollovers or other activities that cause body contact with the water. Back to top
Park Accessibility
There are wheelchair accessible drinking water, parking and restrooms in the park. The shady picnic areas near the lake's swim lagoon are wheelchair accessible. The lagoon has an accessible pool lift.

Park Update
- Contra Loma Reservoir Lowering
- The Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) is planning to lower the reservoir depth after scheduled fishing derbies in October. CCWD will lower the reservoir 20 feet to complete an elevation gage project near the dam. This will close the two fishing docks as well.
- Grazing Update
- Cattle will move into the North West area ( Reseda to Grimsby) beginning April 10. There are 7 pair of cow/calf, one bull, and one heifer for a total of 16.
There are 11 pair of cow/calf for a total of 22 in the West pasture above the service yard. Cattle are also on the North East side of Contra Loma with weanlings and cow/calf for a total of 61 near the Golf Course. Please close gates as you move through grazing areas. Seasonal Grazing occurs November to June and the cattle will generally vacate once the fuel loads have been reduced. For information about our grazing program, please click on the link of the main web page for Stewardship/Resources.
