Notice 

  • Main Area/Entrance from Mendenhall Road CLOSED (NO Walk-In Access)

Del Valle 2020 Closures 
Due to the Visitor Center and Water Treatment Plant Capital Projects, parts of Del Valle Park will be subject to full or partial closures throughout 2020.

Visitor Center Project 
The three picnic sites (Vista Del Lago, Valley Oak and Gray Pine) in the immediate vicinity of the project are currently closed to advanced reservations through the end of June 2020 due to impacts from construction fencing and closure of the restrooms adjacent to the visitor center. These sites may still be used on a first come, first served (non-reservation) basis. Building construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, however the Visitor Center will remain closed through September 2020 to allow for exhibit installation.

Closures for Picnic Areas 

  • January – May: all picnic sites closed to advance reservation Monday-Friday. Park users may use them on a first come, first served basis.
  • September – December: all picnic sites closed to advance reservation 7 days/week. Park users may use them on a first come, first served basis.

Closures for campsites 

  • The annual closure for the East Side group camps (Hetch Hetchy and Venados) was extended from March 31 to May 31; and was moved up from November 1 to September 1.
  • The annual closure for Punta Vaca group campsite and family campground sites 65-110 was moved up from November 1 to October 1.
  • The annual closure for Caballo Loco horse campsite was moved up from November 1 to September 1
  • Horse Camp 1-4, Eagles View, and Ardilla group campsites will be closed September 1 – December 31

Tentative Construction Schedule for Del Valle Water System Improvements
January – May 2020: Distribution system replacement (park-wide). Dog Run/East Shore Trail, Ridgeline Trail, Lakeview Trail, Equestrian parking/staging area, and sections of West Shore Trail are CLOSED. Intermittent shutdowns of portions of the water system. Please bring your own water. Expect some traffic delays.
• May – September 2020: Minor non-disruptive work at water treatment plant
• September – December 2020: Major equipment replacement at water treatment plant, 90-day water treatment plant shutdown, possible water rationing due to limited storage capacity, some campsites limited availability of water. Please bring your own water.


Water Quality 
Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) is present in Del Valle Reservoir, but no toxins have been detected. Keep dogs away from the lake.
