Park District Begins Repaving Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail

The East Bay Regional Park District has begun a rehabilitation project along the Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail. Approximately two to three miles of trail will be repaved to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for trail users, especially in segments that are in poor condition or experience heavy use.

The goals of the trail project are to accomplish the following:

• Rehabilitate damaged sections of trail pavement (as funds allow).

• Widen existing substandard trail segments to ten feet.

• Make portions of the trail ADA compliant.

The construction schedule has been developed to avoid environmental impacts and to maintain school access routes when feasible.

The trail rehabilitation work will require trail closures. The St. Mary's Road trail staging area will be closed for the duration of the project. The Valle Vista trail staging area will be partially closed as needed for truck turnaround. Scheduled closure dates for individual trail segments will be posted on signs at trail entry points and on the Closures page of the EBRPD website. Currently, closures are expected in Lafayette August 3 - 19, and in Moraga beginning August 22. Dates are tentative and subject to .

The trail work is being completed primarily with funding obtained by EBRPD through the federal SAFETEA-LU recreational trails funding program, to which the District added funding from EBRPD trails assessment funds.
