Tidewater Staging Area and Bay Trail Re-Open at Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland

On Friday, January 7, 2011, the East Bay Regional Park District re-opened the Tidewater Staging Area at 4675 Tidewater Avenue in Oakland. The area, located at the northern section of Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland, includes a parking area, restrooms, picnic area, a connection to the Bay Trail, and a new boat launching dock for non-motorized boats such as kayaks. The area was closed July 2009 for construction of the Tidewater Boating Center. The Center, which includes three buildings, was completed on January 5 and will house the District's Outdoor Recreation Unit and Oakland Strokes, a youth rowing organization. The boating facility will officially open on March 5 with a public dedication ceremony. The Center also includes a security residence. Expansion of the staging area parking lot is planned for this spring.
