Mission Peak is being "loved to death" as more people hike to this popular summit.
Off-trail shortcuts (called “bootleg trails”) cause erosion that damages the fragile ecosystem and create ugly scars in the landscape.
Restoration projects along the trail -- clearly marked -- are showing positive results.
Ninth grade students from Fremont’s Irvington High School and a local mountain bike club, supervised by Park Ranger Neil Spargur, are helping with the restoration work.
We ask everyone to use the official trail and help protect the park.
More volunteer opportunities to help save Mission Peak will be available soon.
