Solar panels will be installed in the parking lots at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area in Pleasanton.
To generate clean, renewable energy for facilities throughout the East Bay Regional Park District, and save money on electricity costs.
The solar project will generate 1.2 megawatts of energy annually, enough to offset nearly all the electricity use in the Park District.
Borrego Solar Systems, Inc., of Oakland won the competitive bidding process to install the panels. The project will cost about $7.5 million from the District’s general fund and will pay for itself – through electricity savings throughout the District – in 14 to 17 years.
Construction is slated to begin in June and be completed in December, 2016.
The project will include three electric-car charging stations, new irrigation hook-ups and re-paving of the Shadow Cliffs parking lots.
