Major Sewer Construction Project Set For Tilden Regional Park

Major sewer construction to improve safety and efficiency in the maintenance and operation of the Tilden Nature Area in Tilden Regional Park is set for October 2013 through February 2014. During this time, the following areas will be closed to the public: Tilden Little Farm; Indian Camp parking lot, picnic areas, play structure, and restroom (pedestrians will have access through the Indian Camp parking lot); and Big Leaf picnic area and restroom.

Some Tilden Nature Area trails may be closed or have alternate access. Please watch for detour signs.

The Environmental Education Center (EEC) is expected to remain open to walk-in visitors Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work under this project will include removal or abandonment of existing sewer holding tanks, installation of gravity sewers and manholes, installation of a sewer lift station and force main with associated electrical work and installation of a 9,000 gallon holding tank to be located near the base of Canon Drive.

Funding for this capital project is from the Measure WW bond passed in 2008 by over 72% of the vote in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

In addition, a state-of-the-art, $28,866 pump control panel for the sewer lift station at the Environmental Education Center in Tilden Nature Area will minimize the need for confined space entry, provide uniformity for maintenance and repair and allow remote diagnostic capabilities via computer interface.
Altogether, the nearly $1M project and equipment will improve safety and efficiency of sanitation services for park visitors.
