Extreme Fire Danger Restrictions

  • No open fires, campfires, wood burning or charcoal barbeques are permitted EXCEPT gas or propane-fueled stoves.
  • Visitors to campgrounds must clear all flammable material for ten feet in all directions from their camp stove, have a shovel available, and ensure that a responsible person attends the stove always during use.
  • Smoking is prohibited in ALL East Bay Regional Parks.
  • No use of gasoline powered equipment (generators). 
  • Increased monitoring, patrol and strict enforcement of these restrictions will occur by East Bay Regional Park District police and fire personnel, park staff and volunteer trail safety patrollers.

  • Picnics: The District will not be accepting requests for 2021 reservations. Picnic sites are available on a first come, first served basis, limited to 25 people max/ 3 household max.
  • Camping: Del Valle and Anthony Chabot family campgrounds are OPEN, by reservation only.
  • Use of personal gas/propane stoves is permitted with the usual restrictions.

The following restrictions remain in place for the remainder of the fire season:

  • Smoke-Free Parks. Smoking is prohibited in the East Bay Regional Park District. "Smoking" means inhaling, exhaling, burning or carrying any lighted pipe, cigar, cigarette, weed, plant or other combustible organic or chemical substance, the smoke from which is specifically designed or intended to be inhaled or drawn into the nose or mouth. In addition, "smoking" for the purpose of this Ordinance includes the use of any vapor device, of any product name or descriptor, which releases gases, particles or vapors into the air as a result of combustion, electrical ignition or vaporization intended to be drawn into the nose or mouth (excluding any United States Food and Drug Administration approved nebulized medication).
  • Restriction. No person shall build, light or maintain fires of any kind in areas where prohibited and posted during declared fire season. Extreme conditions may cause the elimination of all open flames for any purpose, or the evacuation or closure of a park.
  • Personal Cooking Appliances. Personal appliances such as gas or propane camp stove, portable barbecue or hibachi may be used under the following conditions: (I)
    • Placement in an area that will not scorch, burn or otherwise damage lawns or table tops.
    • Placement in an area at least 30 feet from any flammable material such as grass, weeds, wood chips, brush or buildings.
    • All burning fuel such as wood or charcoal is thoroughly extinguished before being disposed of in an existing fireplace, fire pit or barbecue grill. It is unlawful to dispose of coals in garbage cans or refuse bins.

  • A general advisory will be issued after 0.2" or more of rain to alert the public of potential bay water contamination due to urban runoff.
  • At such times, the East Bay Regional Park District advises beach users to avoid contact with bay waters for a period of three days or 72 hours after rainfall ends.
