PLEASE NOTE: All lifeguard service operates depending on weather, water level, water quality, staffing availability and visitation. When lifeguards are not on duty, swimming is permitted only in a designated area, and at a swimmer's own risk. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult. No alcoholic beverages, dogs, glass containers, fishing, or barbecues in the swim facility. Incontinent individuals are prohibited from water contact activities in non-chlorinated swimming areas. (Ordinance 38). This applies to the swimming areas of Del Valle, Crown Beach, Miller/Knox, Temescal, Quarry Lakes, Shadow Cliffs, and Tilden.

Contra Loma Regional Park The lake's swim lagoon, staffed with lifeguards in the summer, has a sandy beach with restrooms, a concession stand, and an accessible lift into the pool. Crown Memorial State Beach The water is warm and shallow at Crown Beach. At the west end of the beach is a bathhouse with changing rooms. Swimming is permitted during park hours year round. Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area The swim complex, including bathhouse, vending machines and lifeguard service, is open during the warm weather season. It is ideal for families with small children, who will enjoy splashing in the shallows and playing on the white, sandy beach. Del Valle Regional Park Del Valle offers two swimming beaches with lifeguards on duty during posted periods. Year-round swimming is allowed without lifeguards. Don Castro Regional Recreation Area Swimming in the lagoon is a main attraction from the end of May through September. There is a bathhouse with shower, vending machines, a sandy beach and large lawn areas. Swimming is allowed only when lifeguards are on duty. Beach wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Little Hills Picnic Ranch The Little Hills swimming pool is available by reservation only. This pool offers and accessible lift into the pool, lounge chairs for sun bathing, and picnic tables with umbrellas for lunch. Little Hills Ranch provides two lifeguards with each reservation as well as kayak races inside the swimming pool upon request. The pool measures 10 yards by 25 yards with a 3 ft shallow end and a 9 ft deep end. Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline Keller Beach is at the north end of Miller/Knox. There, visitors can wade and swim in San Francisco Bay. No lifeguards are on duty. Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area (Horseshoe Lake) The Horseshoe Lake's (Niles Beach) swim complex, including the sandy beach, a bathhouse, vending machines and lifeguard service, is open year round. When lifeguards are not on duty, swimming at your own risk is allowed within the roped-off swim area only. (See the Lifeguard Service Schedule to the right). Roberts Regional Recreation Area The Roberts Pool complex features a 25-yard, heated swimming pool with a depth of 3 feet to 8.5 feet (no diving board), vending machines and lawn areas. In addition, the complex is fully accessible to individuals with disabilities, including the bathhouse and an accessible lift into the pool. Temescal Regional Recreation Area Lake Temescal has an accessible beachhouse adjacent to the swim area which offers changing rooms, vending machines and showers. Swimming is allowed without lifeguards. Swimming is generally prohibited November through March. Beach wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Tilden Regional Park (Lake Anza) Just over the hill from Berkeley, Tilden Park's Lake Anza is a favorite getaway. Its sandy beach is open to the sun and sheltered from the wind, with lifeguards posted during the swim season (See the Lifeguard Service Schedule to the right). During the swim season when lifeguards are not on duty, swimming at your own risk is allowed within the roped-off area only. Swimming is prohibited from November through the beginning of swim season (See the Lifeguard Service Schedule to the right).
