CSUEB Continuing Education Credit

The East Bay Regional Park District in cooperation with California State University East Bay (CSUEB) Continuing Education

Requirements for One Quarter Unit From CSUEB Extension

One-Day and Three-Day Educators Academy Sessions

In order to receive a graduate unit of credit, the University requires a minimum of 10 hours of work and written paper. The one-day sessions will be eight hours and a short paper should take you about two hours. Three day classes for 30 hours will result in three quarter units. Bring check book, VISA, or MasterCard to enroll for CSU credit at the class.

THE PAPER (please type or print legibly) is due one week after the class in which you were enrolled.

  1. Head your paper with your name, address, phone number, grade level(s) taught, school, school district, and the title of the Educators Academy session you took. (If you are a non-formal (perhaps uncredentialled) teacher, please give a brief job description, your title and the name of your company or agency.)
  2. Your paper should be two pages long, highlighting a lesson or lessons you will do with your students based on something you learned in the Educators Academy session for which you wish to receive the one quarter unit of credit.
  3. You may select from the following suggestions about what to include in your paper:
    • Explain how the lessons you learned by participating in the Educators Academy changed or enhanced how or what you teach.
    • Explain any new information that you learned and/or how this course helped you form a different view of teaching this topic.
    • Explain whether or not the content of this course fits into an already existing curriculum in your classroom or if you will design a new unit(s) on this topic.
    • Which park(s) will you use and what will you teach? (If not EBRPD parks, name a nearby park, open space or school ground where you will use to enhance your teaching.) Include major concepts, multi-disciplinary activities, teaching strategies, extensions, etc. Combine your ideas for a field trip with pre and post classroom activities for your students.
    • Explain how material presented in this course will be utilized in your classroom and on your field trip. In your outline, be sure it is clear where you are fitting in the new material so that there is a distinction between what had existed prior to this course and what will be added from this course.
    • Write about the techniques you will use to teach this material (cooperative, experiential, constructivist, reports, field trips, experiments, learning stations, project-based learning, engaging activities, community extension, etc.

Paper is due one week after the completion of the course. Send four copies of your paper and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the naturalist who taught your Educators Academy class. See the list of Naturalist instructors for mailing addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.
