POLICE CONTINUING INVESTIGATION
East Bay Park District Police are continuing their investigation into the murder-suicide which occurred June 18, 2007 at Tilden Park's Mineral Springs parking lot.
Yesterday, detectives removed some paperwork and a computer from the Morrissey residence in Berkeley. Police plan to have a forensic computer specialist examine the computer's hard drive for any possible evidence related to this case. Timothy Anderson, the Park District's police chief, said investigators are interested in determining if Kevin Morrissey kept logs or notes regarding the murder-suicide which would indicate long-term pre-planning. Police also are looking into the family's financial situation, because Kevin Morrissey wrote in his suicide note that they were at "a financial breaking point."
Chief Anderson said detectives have confirmed that Morrissey purchased the .357 magnum revolver used in the murders at the Old West Gun Room in El Cerrito, just a few blocks from the family's Aura Laser Skin Care Center in Albany. "Records indicate he purchased the gun on April 19, 2007, and took possession of it May 1, 2007" following a state waiting period, Anderson said.
Anderson said the Contra Costa Sheriff's Coroner's Bureau has completed the autopsies of all four victims and will release their findings soon.
Anderson is also releasing a few more details about Kevin Morrissey's type-written suicide note investigators found on his person at the scene. Morrissey apologized to first responders and subsequent investigators. In the note he stated he accepted full responsibilities for "today's actions." He provided investigators with his family's personal information and contact information for next-of-kin. Morrissey said that their medical practice business was failing financially and that other employment opportunities were "unattractive." Kevin Morrissey said his family was "a typical family with a normal set of relationships within our community and family." He wrote that "today's deaths will likely be a surprise to anyone who knows us."
Chief Anderson said that detectives have learned that Morrissey mailed similar notes to family and friends the day before the murders.
Park Police are asking anyone with any information regarding this case to please call them at 510-881-1833. Media inquiries can be directed to the District's Public Information Officer, Shelly Lewis at 510-544-2208.
