Day Camp Partner Application

Thank you for applying to be our new partner in the Park’n It Day Camp partnership. This is a free 2-year
partnership with local school and community organizations that helps children discover and enjoy THEIR
Regional Parks. We know that many families and schools have limited knowledge of the Regional Parks,
transportation barriers, lack of resources, or other barriers to getting out to the parks. We aim to ‘level the
playing field’ so that every child can access their parks. We are seeking schools where at least 85% of students are on Free or Reduced Lunch Programs, or 501(c)3 non-profits that serve kids who face barriers to camp and outdoor recreation participation.

The Park District is able to provide one free week of summer day camp for up to 50 kids between the ages of
5 and 12 for two years. We provide school buses to pick them up, and then our Recreation Leaders take
them to our Regional Parks for hiking, fishing, environmental education, field games, arts & crafts, swimming,
and much more. We provide each camper with snacks, lunch, a small bag, t-shirt, and water bottle. But more
importantly, we teach outdoor skills, teamwork skills, and foster a lifelong connection to these Regional Parks.
The camp runs from 9am to 4pm Monday-Friday, for one week each of the two summers.

This program is accredited by the American Camp Association, which means that we run our program to
national standards of safety and quality.

Does your community have barriers to enjoying outdoor recreation in the Regional Parks?
Promotion & Registration
We provide flyers and registration forms. Our partners are responsible for promoting the camp, distributing the registration forms, and getting the completed forms back to us at least two weeks prior to the camp. Can your staff promote this camp and register 50 kids?
Can your staff call the camper families one week before the camp to remind them?
Can you provide a safe bus pick-up area, a bathroom while kids are waiting for the bus, and a staff contact person to help us with registration and sign-in?
Which week(s) are your school or non-profit able to participate?
Is your organization able to leverage other resources -funds, outdoor equipment, other grants, volunteers- for these trips?
 

We will review the applications in January and notify applicants by mid-February if they are accepted. We will then work together on a Memorandum of Agreement, and then set up a meeting to plan our 2017 program. Thank you for applying for this partnership!
