EBRPD Volunteer Inducted into Ca. Outdoors Hall of Fame

The Park District is proud to have among its retirees the latest inductee into the California Outdoors Hall of Fame. Ned MacKay never really left the District when he retired in 2002 following two decades as the agency's public information supervisor; he just became a top-notch volunteer as well as ongoing columnist on all things EBRPD. To be recognized, the Hall of Fame honorees must have inspired thousands of Californians to get involved in the great outdoors and/or conservation, and they must have participated themselves in a  significant breadth of outdoor adventures.

In announcing the four inductees for 2017, San Francisco Chronicle outdoors columnist Tom Stienstra hailed MacKay as “one of California’s greatest ambassadors to parklands.” In his 15 years on the Volunteer Trail Safety Patrol, MacKay has logged over 500 hours on the trails assisting the public and the EBRPD Public Safety Division. In addition to being an avid hiker in the Regional Parks, MacKay has also traversed many other trails within and beyond California. His column on the Regional Parks’ activities and natural history has appeared for a decade in the Bay Area News Group newspapers.

Ned was awarded the honor at the annual International Sportsmen’s Exposition, held at Cal Expo in Sacramento earlier this month. He was one of four Californians inducted this winter into the state Outdoors Hall of Fame.
