Park & Trail Closure Information - Listed by Facility

Alameda Creek Regional Trail

The Alameda Creek Unpaved Trail from the Bart Tracks downstream to Isherwood staging may experience closures due to trail maintenance from Feb 21-23 and Feb 28-March 2nd between 9am and 3pm. Please expect detours and delays during this timeframe.

Swimming is never allowed and water contact is currently not permitted at Shinn Pond. Now due to the presence of toxic algae in the lake and we recommended that you avoid all skin contact with lake water; supervise your children and pets, especially dogs, at all times to keep them away from the water. If your skin touches the water, rinse with tap water.


The Alameda County Water District (ACWD) has begun work along the Alameda Creek Flood Control Channel that will have temporary impacts on recreation along the Alameda Creek Trail and at Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area. See the ACWD website for project information and upcoming meetings in Fremont. 

 

Alamo Canal Trail

Anthony Chabot Regional Park

Trail Closure

    • Until further notice, Ranch Trail is CLOSED due to landslide and trees on trail.
    • Until further notice, Loggers Loop Trail is CLOSED due to multiply trees down.
    • Until further notice, Escondido Trail is CLOSED due to fallen trees.
    • Until further notice, Horseshoe Trail is CLOSED due to a mud slide and unsafe conditions.
    • Until further notice, East Shore-Honker Bay Footbridge is CLOSED due to flooding.
    • Until further notice, Columbine Trail is CLOSED due to landslide and trees on trail.
    • Until further notice, Lost Ridge Trail is CLOSED due to erosion.

Weather Conditions

Cascade Trail at Columbine Trail and Cascade Trail to Bass Cove is now, seasonally flooded, and has become a part of the creek; with the current storm forecast, it is not advisable to cross the creek from Columbine Trail to Cascade Trail. Please use alternate routes to enjoy the park or if encountering unsafe conditions, simply turn around and walk back out to your point of entry. Best access to Bass Cove is from Clyde Woolridge Staging area to Goldenrod Trail south.

Lake Loop Closure

Portions of the West Shore Trail, Bass Cove Trail and the area around Chabot Dam at Lake Chabot Regional Park are CLOSED seven days a week until late summer 2017 while the East Bay Municipal Utility District completes seismic retrofit work on the 142-year-old dam. During this closure, the Lake Chabot Bicycle Loop and hiking loop will be closed across the dam. Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area

Annual Closure Notice:

From Feb. 1 to July 31, the “Castle Rock” area of Mount Diablo State Park will be CLOSED to all visitors.  This area is accessed mostly by Stage Road Trail which is in Diablo Foothills Park and Castle Rock Recreation area of EBRPD.   Stage Road Trail will NOT be affected by this closure, but all areas east of the trail leading up to the rock formation areas will be off limits.  This closure is to help protect the American peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus anatum). This protected species is territorial and highly sensitive to disturbance during nesting season. The rocks – located in Pine Canyon – are CLOSED to all access during these same months each year. 

Although the peregrine is no longer endangered, it is still a fully protected species in California, and disturbance of nesting peregrines is punishable by fines and even arrest.
Please abide by the posted regulations, stay out of the restricted areas and don’t disturb the nesting birds. Public cooperation will be key to the success of the program.

Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve

Contra Costa Canal Trail

No closures at this time.

Contra Loma Regional Park

Seasonal Closure (until further notice). The connector between Willow Trail and Crandall Creek to Alameda Creek Trail is CLOSED. We asked that all vehicle drivers and bicyclists stay alert for wildlife while driving on the roads. Give them the time they need to cross the roadway.

Coyote Hills Regional Park

As of January 17, 2017, and until further notice, due to the recent storms, Coyote Hills is experiencing flooding on trails in the marshes. The boardwalk, observation dock, and Chochenyo Trail are CLOSED. The seasonal crossing of Crandall Creek Trail and D.U.S.T. Trail is flooded and sections of lower Meadowlark Trail, Tuibun Trail, Muskrat Trail, Willow Trail, and Crandall Creek Trail are flooded. The public is advised to use those trails with caution. Notices have been posted.

Crockett Hills Regional Park

Until further notice, the Gold Finch Trail and the Chorus Frog Connector are CLOSED to the public, to protect sensitive species during the nesting season.

Crown Memorial State Beach

There is no entry into the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary to facilitate ongoing restoration work, until further notice.

Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area

During a closure due to full capacity, guests may not be permitted into the lagoon area until deemed safe by Park staff.

Delta de Anza Regional Trail

Until further notice, the Delta de Anza Regional Trail is CLOSED in Pittsburg, at Love Ridge Road to the west end of the school property at the bridge. The closure is due to construction in the area.

Del Valle Regional Park

As of January 12, 2017, the main park, campground, reservations,  and the trail access from the "Dog Run" section of the East Shore Trail will be CLOSED through Monday, February 27, 2017, due to safety and power issues. Please abide by all posted Trail Closure notices in the park.
The Arroyo Staging area and fire trail access will be opened for public access starting Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Trail access will be limited in the open space areas. The main developed areas of the park and access will remain closed. It is advised that many trails will have storm damage and muddy conditions and to exercise caution around shorelines and fast running creeks.


Lake Del Valle contains toxic algae. Do not swim or have any bodily contact with the water. Toxic algae can be fatal to dogs - do not let your dog swim in or drink the water.

Diablo Foothills Regional Park

As of January 11, 2017, and until further notice, parts of Castle Rock Trail, near Orchard Staging Area, are CLOSED due to storm damage.  Slides have occurred on this trail and other slides may be out in the park in areas we cannot get to yet.  Please use caution at this time - the ground is extremely saturated and unstable.  Please report any damage to park staff at (510) 544-3085.

Garin/Dry Creek Regional Park

 As of February 8, 2017, and until further notice, the Chabot-Garin Trail from Llama Lane to Stonebrae Radio towers is CLOSED. The trail is damaged due to the recent storms, mud slides and downed trees.

Hayward Regional Shoreline

No closures at this time.

Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve

No closures at this time.

Iron Horse Regional Trail

The trail at the Concord Avenue and Diamond Avenue underpasses in Concord is prone to CLOSURE due to flooding. Please be advised and look for signage.

Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area

The main entrance on San Pablo Dam Road is CLOSED due to flooding. The back entrance on Hillside Dr. will remain open during regular park hours.


As of February 9, and until further notice, the Sobrante Ridge Trail (which is also a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail) is CLOSED from Conestoga Way to the Sobrante Ridge Trail Loop, due to a trail washout.

Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail

 No closures at this time.

Lake Chabot Regional Park

Trail Closures

As of February 9, and until further notice, the following trails are flooded and CLOSED:
Honker Bay, Sewer Bridge on Cameron Loop, Brandon at Redwood Canyon Golf Course, and Redwood Canyon Golf Course.

Lake Loop Closure

Beginning May 16, 2016, portions of the West Shore Trail, Bass Cove Trail and the area around Chabot Dam at Lake Chabot Regional Park will be CLOSED seven days a week for 16 months, while the East Bay Municipal Utility District completes seismic retrofit work on the 142-year-old dam. During this closure, the Lake Chabot Bicycle Loop and hiking loop will be CLOSED across the dam. Swimming & Water Conditions

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness

The Bollinger Creek Loop Trail is CLOSED south of the equestrian parking area at the end of Bollinger Canyon Road. This closure will last indefinitely.

Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve

Trail Conditions

The Leona Canyon Main Trail will be CLOSED for repairs February 22-24 (weather permitting).
Addition pending repair dates : February 22 through March 8. (weather dependent).
During the closure:
Leona Canyon may be accessed from the top of Pyrite Trail (gate hours: 7:00AM to 6:00PM) and hikers must turn around at junction with Leona Main Trail and go back out to Campus Drive.
Leona Canyon may be accessed from the Merritt College side (parking fees may apply) and hikers must turn around at the Pyrite Trail junction and return to Merritt College.

Leona Trail is CLOSED between Pyrite Trail and Artemisia Trail, until further notice due to storm damage.
Storm damage has occurred along Pyrite Trail. Caution is advised for all, especially bicyclists heading downhill.

Marsh Creek Regional Trail

No closures at this time.

Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline Park

The boat launch at the south Doolittle Dr. parking area in Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline is CLOSED until further notice and is replaced and made safe for public use. The left side (north side) will be replaced with an aluminum dock and the right side (south side) will be CLOSED until the pilings are replaced.  

McLaughlin Eastshore State Park

Partial Trail Closure

A portion of the Albany Neck Shoreline Trail will be CLOSED from February 13-14, 2017 for trail erosion repair.


January 30, 2017, an update on the work on the "Giant Dirt Pile".

Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline

As of February 7, 2017, and until further notice, the northern most section of Miller Knox Regional Shoreline and the trail that connects with Dornan Drive are CLOSED due to weather conditions.


Beginning mid-August 2015, many areas of the park will be either CLOSED or access will be limited by the "Miller Knox Park Renovation Project" Acrobat PDF. The south parking lot will be CLOSED on weekdays, for the duration of the project.  Water service will be disrupted and drinking fountains may be shut off.  For construction project questions, please contact Ren Bates, Project Manager at RBates@ebparks.org. Mission Peak Regional Preserve

Morgan Territory Regional Preserve

The Morgan Territory backpack camp will be CLOSED until further notice, due to limited winter accessibility. After March 1, 2017, the camp closure may remain in effect until access roads dry.

Old Moraga Ranch Trail

Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline

Trucks will be delivering soil to Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline on weekdays. The project, which is expected to continue through 2017, is part of the Park District’s ongoing efforts to build up the topography of the park to meet the standards of the District’s Oyster Bay Land Use Plan adopted in 2013. Please observe signs about areas that might be closed to the public during this process.

Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park

Point Isabel Regional Shoreline

Point Pinole Regional Shoreline

Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area

Radke Martinez Regional Shoreline

Redwood Regional Park

Trail Closures

  • The Stream trail is closed between Old Church picnic site and the Fern Trail.
  • The Bridle trail is closed between Fern Dell and Trails End.
  • The East Ridge trail from Skyline Gate is closed, due to a growing slide.  East Ridge trail is open beyond the slide and can be easily accessed via the Skyline National Trail.
  • The Phillips Loop trail is closed from Eucalyptus trail to the northwest intersection with East Ridge trail ( the closest intersection with Skyline Gate). There are multiple large Pine trees down across the trail.

Trails are impassable due to several downed trees and trail washouts. Trails will remained CLOSED until made accessible and safe for public use.

Roberts Regional Recreation Area

No closures at this time. 

Shadow Cliffs Recreation Area

As of Jan. 13, 2017, and until further notice: the Lake Trail, South Arroyo Trail, the Arroyo Del Valle bridge and the North Arroyo Trail are CLOSED due to storm damage.

Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve

No closures at this time.

Skyline National Trail

No closures at this time.

Sunol Regional Wilderness

Adjacent to the park, the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project construction will continue until the end of 2018, for the replacement dam. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will be building the new dam at Calaveras Reservoir. Sunol Regional Wilderness is expected to remain open for day use during this time. Sunol Backpack Camp will also remain open. There is currently no overnight camping at Sunol's Family Camp School Camp, or High Valley Group Camp. All other campsites and the reservable picnic sites will remain open at this time.

Fish Passage Facilities within the Alameda Creek Watershed: This project is a sub-project of the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project. The project will entail improvements of the facilities, and construction of a fish ladder to facilitate fish passage around the existing Alameda Creek Diversion Dam. Construction begins March 2016 and completion is expected in 2018. East Bay Regional Park District patrons should anticipate seeing increased construction traffic from the Geary Road entrance of the Sunol Regional Wilderness Park and along Camp Ohlone Road during construction. Please pay attention to park signage, construction activity may warrant temporary closures to Camp Ohlone Road and access to Little Yosemite on weekdays and Saturdays.

The Lower Maguire Peaks Trail is CLOSED. Equestrians can access the Maguire Peaks Loop via both the Maguire Peaks Trail and the Upper Maguire Peaks Trail, both accessible from Welch Creek Road.

Sycamore Valley Open Space Preserve

No closures at this time.

Tassajara Creek / Ridge Trail

No closures at this time.

Temescal Regional Recreation Area

Swimming at Lake Temescal is CLOSED for the season. We will re-open for swimming in April 2017.

Tilden Nature Area

No closures at this time.

Tilden Regional Park

The Selby Trail is CLOSED at the connector trail to the Merry-Go-Round until further notice.

From Oct. 31, 2016, through March 31, 2017, South Park Drive in Tilden Regional Park will be CLOSED to all automobile traffic to protect migrating and breeding newts. Bicycles are allowed, although bicyclists are asked to proceed slowly and avoid newts crossing the road. Dogs may be off-leash on South Park Drive during the closure, but they must be under voice control and owners must carry a leash. More Information.

Vargas Plateau Regional Park

Vasco Caves Regional Preserve

No closures at this time.

Wildcat Canyon Regional Park

The Wildcat Peak trail is CLOSED due to a landslide.  The closure runs from the top of the trail just below the Rotary club stone monument, to the Sylvan trail in the Tilden Nature area.

The Rifle Range Road Trail is CLOSED due to a major landslide. Alternate entry points into the park are through the Alvarado Staging Area off Park Ave. in Richmond, from Bonita Road, Monte Cresta Ave., or Clark Road in El Sobrante, through Tilden Nature Area, or via the Nimitz Way from Inspiration Point on Wildcat Canyon Road in Tilden Regional Park.

Wildcat Marsh Trail
