Alameda Creek Regional Trail

Sections of the Alameda Creek Paved Trail from Niles Staging down to Ardenwood Boulevard will be CLOSED for maintenance from Wednesday, February 21 – Friday, February 23 between 7am and 5pm. 
Swimming is never allowed and water contact is currently not permitted at Shinn Pond. Now due to the presence of toxic algae in the lake and we recommended that you avoid all skin contact with lake water; supervise your children and pets, especially dogs, at all times to keep them away from the water. If your skin touches the water, rinse with tap water.

Alamo Canal Trail

Anthony Chabot Regional Park

Road Closures

Redwood Road, Castro Valley, is CLOSED to all southbound traffic at Marciel Road and northbound traffic at Miller Road, until further notice due to roadway failure. This closure blocks all through-traffic between Castro Valley and Oakland. For updates on the closures, please visit www.acpwa.org. For additional information on Redwood Road, call John Medlock, Deputy Director, Maintenance and Operations, at (510) 670-5500.

Guests accessing the Anthony Chabot campground facilities need to enter from the Oakland side of Redwood Road. There is no access from Castro Valley.

Trail Closure

Until further notice, the following Trails are CLOSED:
 - The Buckeye Trail is CLOSED due to landslide and trees on trail.
 - The Mirador Trail is CLOSED due to multiple fallen trees, suspended low over the trail.

Marksmanship Range Closure

Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve 

Until further notice, the Greathouse Visitor Center is CLOSED due to construction in the mine. The facility is generally open on weekends from March – November. While the Greathouse Visitor Center remains closed, the Sidney Flat Visitor Center will be continue to be open on weekends from 10am – 4:30pm. Parking fee is $5 per vehicle on weekends and holidays. Briones to Mt. Diablo Regional Trail

Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline

Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area

The annual closure area for the protection of the peregrine falcons is in effect from February 1, though July 31. This includes the entire rock formation area that is east of Stage Road trail. All the trails leading up to that area are unofficial trails and are not on the park map. Watch for signs showing which areas are closed. All official named trails throughout the park are open and not affected by this protected area. For more information, please contact park staff at (510) 544-3085.

Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve

Contra Costa Canal Trail

No closures at this time.

Contra Loma Regional Park

The boat launch facility will be CLOSED for rehabilitation beginning September 25, 2017, and is scheduled to reopen in 2018. Improvements will include improvements to the boat launch, paving and striping of the parking area, new vaults toilets, new and relocated fish cleaning station, and new drinking fountains. All other areas of Contra Loma Regional Park will not be impacted by this construction. This project is made possible through generous grants from the Bureau of Reclamation and the California Department of Boating and Waterways.

Trailered boats will not be able to launch during the rehabilitation project.  Kayaks and inflatables can be launched from the shore line at Channel Point after passing Quagga inspection.

Coyote Hills Regional Park

Crockett Hills Regional Park

Until further notice, the Gold Finch Trail and the Chorus Frog Connector are CLOSED to protect sensitive species during the nesting season.

Crown Memorial State Beach

Until further notice, there is NO entry into the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary to facilitate ongoing restoration work.

Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area

Delta de Anza Regional Trail

Del Valle Regional Park

Lake Del Valle west beach swim area and lawn will be CLOSED for maintenance. East beach swim remains open.

Diablo Foothills Regional Park

Until further notice, the Castle Rock Single Track Trail, at the intersection of Castle Rock Trail (fire road) and Stage Road Trail, is CLOSED, due to a large landslide. The trail is signed and currently covered by a large tarp and is not safe to use. Use Castle Rock Trail (fire road) or Stage Road Trail to go around that section. Report any damage to park staff at (510) 544-3085.

Don Castro Regional Recreation Area

Garin/Dry Creek Regional Park

Until further notice, the Chabot to Garin trail from Five Canyons/Don Castro via Llama Lane is CLOSED to Emergency Vehicles due to trail slide activity.


Until further notice, the southernmost bridge on the Dry Creek Trail located near the Meyers Ranch trail was removed for the public’s safety. There is a crossing ford to the east side of the bridge that is available when the creek is dry.

Hayward Regional Shoreline

Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve

Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area

Until further notice, the single track portion of the Sobrante Ridge Trail (also part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail) is CLOSED between the Conestoga Dr. trailhead and the Sobrante Ridge Trail Loop.

Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail

Until further notice, a one mile section of the Old Moraga Ranch Trail is CLOSED due to a landslide. The closure is located between Camino Pablo in Moraga and the East Bay Mud Watershed Area. 

Until further notice, a portion of the Lafayette Moraga Trail is CLOSED due to a mudslide. The closure is between 1700 School St. and Val Vista staging area in Moraga.

Lake Chabot Regional Park

Swimming & Water Conditions

Swimming and water contact is never permitted at Lake Chabot; due to the presence of blue-green algae in the lake, we recommended that visitors avoid all skin contact with lake water. Supervise your children and pets, especially dogs, at all times to keep them away from the water. If your skin touches the water, rinse with tap water.

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness

Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve

Storm damage has occurred along Pyrite Trail. Caution is advised for all, especially bicyclists heading downhill. Pyrite Trail gate is open sunrise to sunset.

Marsh Creek Regional Trail

Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline Park

The right dock (south side) is CLOSED until the pilings are replaced and made safe for public use.
Only the left dock (north side) is OPEN for use at the south Doolittle Dr. parking area.

McLaughlin Eastshore State Park

The Brickyard site of the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park is CLOSED for site stabilization and desirable plant establishment through vegetation management. Plans are in development for walking trails, picnic areas, restrooms and parking. As The Brickyard site is State-owned property, only dog-walking on leash will be allowed. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2018, and completed in early 2019. In the interim, please visit the other areas of the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park.

Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline

Mission Peak Regional Preserve

Morgan Territory Regional Preserve

Through March 2018, the Morgan Territory Backpack Camp will be CLOSED due to limited winter accessibility. After March 2018, the camp closure may remain in effect until access roads dry.

Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline

Trucks will be delivering soil to Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline on weekdays. The project is part of the Park District’s ongoing efforts to build up the topography of the park to meet the standards of the District’s Oyster Bay Land Use Plan. Observe signs about areas that are closed to the public during this process.

Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park

Sobrante Ridge Regional Preserve

Until further notice, the Sobrante Ridge Trail (which is also a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail) is CLOSED from Conestoga Way to the Sobrante Ridge Trail Loop, due to a trail washout.

Sunol Regional Wilderness

Adjacent to the park, the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project construction will continue until June 2019, for the replacement dam. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will be building the new dam at Calaveras Reservoir. Sunol Regional Wilderness is expected to remain open for day use during this time. Sunol Backpack Camp will also remain open. There is currently no overnight camping at Sunol's Family Camp School Camp, or High Valley Group Camp. All other campsites and the reservable picnic sites will remain open at this time.

Fish Passage Facilities within the Alameda Creek Watershed: This project is a sub-project of the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project. The project will entail improvements of the facilities, and construction of a fish ladder to facilitate fish passage around the existing Alameda Creek Diversion Dam. Construction began March 2016 and completion is expected in 2018. Park visitors will see increased construction traffic from the Geary Road entrance of the park and along Camp Ohlone Road during construction. Pay attention to park signage. Construction activity may require closures to Camp Ohlone Road and access to Little Yosemite on weekdays and Saturdays.

Sycamore Valley Open Space Preserve

Temescal Regional Recreation Area

Swimming is prohibited from September 21, 2017 through early April 2018.

Blue-green algae is present, please keep dogs away from the water.

Tilden Regional Park

Newt Migration Closes South Park Drive in Tilden Regional Park

South Park Drive in Tilden Regional Park will be CLOSED through March 31, 2018, to all automobile traffic to protect migrating and breeding newts. Bicycles are allowed, although bicyclists are asked to proceed slowly and avoid newts crossing the road. Dogs may be off-leash on South Park Drive during the closure, but they must be under voice control and owners must carry a leash.

The Rifle Range Road Trail is CLOSED due to a major landslide. Alternate entry points into the park are through the Alvarado Staging Area off Park Ave. in Richmond, from Bonita Road, Monte Cresta Ave., or Clark Road in El Sobrante, through Tilden Nature Area, or via the Nimitz Way from Inspiration Point on Wildcat Canyon Road in Tilden Regional Park.
